Gov. Pritzker Signs Law Outlawing Ghost Guns
May 31, 2022
What is a Ghost Gun? A Ghost Gun is a firearm made from kits that can be ordered online, “assembled in minutes*” and have no serial number. Illinois became the first state in the Midwest to ban ghost guns. Legislation banning the sale and possession of Ghost Guns was signed into law last week.
According to the Chicago Police, they are seeing a huge increase in ghost guns, recovering 139 in 2020 and 458 in 2021. President Biden is also waging a national war on “do-it-yourself” guns. Last month, Biden and the Justice Department announced a rule to keep businesses from selling them without a serial number.
Those who already own ghost guns can make them legal by bringing them to a gun shop, where a serial number can bee put on them, according to the new law, which goes into effect this summer.
The gun rights lobby is considering filing a lawsuit, challenging the constitutionality of the law under the second amendment.
*”Assembled in Minutes” was reported by ABC news. However, it takes a LOT longer than minutes to build a ghost gun.
